A Statement

Writer's picture: The Way HomeThe Way Home

We at The Way Home are deeply saddened and outraged by the abuse that predicated recent charges brought against a former pastor in Lexington, KY, for sexually abusing a minor.

This is a devastating and grievous abuse of power, position, and authority—and in this case, a criminal act, as well. Clergy sexual abuse, especially of a minor, is deeply wounding for victims, churches, and the community at large.

Acts of abuse and betrayal are not the heart of God and cause Him deep grief. As followers of Jesus, we remember that He both wept and flipped tables in response to wrongdoing and injustice. Both responses are reasonable and show the depth of His compassion and righteous anger.

We stand together with victims of deep harm in the name of Jesus, holding each one before Him. And we stand with those who are struggling to make sense of such a substantial betrayal of trust.

In the darkest of nights, God is still fighting for us.

The Way Home will offer a support group for those who have lost trust in the wake of spiritual abuse Wednesday evenings beginning Wednesday, July 3 at 7pm ET. We also offer free resources available online, as well as prayer support.

We know that the path ahead is a difficult one. Processing and healing will take time.

God, have mercy. And may Your Kingdom come.
