This Is Not The End

When my world came crashing down, I was surrounded by broken pieces – broken relationships, broken hearts, broken dreams, broken me. Nothing was untouched by the grief and heartbreak I was facing.
The fallout was brutal. Where there was once friendship, I encountered silence. Where there was once purpose, the days stretched out before me, empty. Where there was once certainty, I was reeling, unsure, wounded, confused. I felt abandoned, rejected, judged, alone, and the tears argued to never stop.
But in the ashes of my life, came the whisper, “This is not the end.”
"This is not the end."
God was breathing hope into my shattered heart. Some things were heartbreakingly over, but God wasn’t done. In fact, I’ve come to learn that God does some of His best work when we’re at the end of our rope. Eugene Peterson puts it this way:
“You’re blessed when you’re at the end of your rope. With less of you there is more of God and His rule.” —Matthew 5:3 (msg)
I can tell you this: I did not feel blessed. But as I found the courage to wake up day after day, I encountered Him where no one else dared to be – in the middle of my broken heart.
They say that time heals all wounds, but I don’t believe that. It’s Jesus who heals. He’s the One who promises that He is near to the brokenhearted, and He understands more than we do yet what’s broken, what has to go, and what’s about to be born. He is there with hope and the whisper that this is not the end. Broken hearts are where God does some of His best work. And honestly, broken hearts are where we’re most willing to let Him.
Broken hearts are where God does some of His best work. And honestly, broken hearts are where we're most willing to let Him.
And while time doesn’t heal all wounds, it really does help. So hold on, dear one. Hold on to the One who will never let go of you. He made this promise to me in my nightmare and I believe He’s making it to you:
“I’ve never quit loving you and never will. Expect love, love, and more love! And so now I’ll start over with you and build you up again.” —Jeremiah 31:3 (msg)
God has never met a broken heart that He can’t heal. He's never seen a broken life that He can’t redeem. Healing hurts, but believe me, this is not the end. He’s catching every tear, tending every wound, and one day at a time, He will lead you home.
